The Founder of the company, Mr. J P Mukherji, fondly called Baba, was Chief Executive of Walchandnagar Industries Limited and pioneered indigenous manufacture of sugar machinery and installed number of projects on turnkey basis in India and abroad. Under his stewardship, Walchandnagar Industries, which previously was merely a sugar production unit, grew to become one of the largest heavy machinery manufacturers in the private sector in India and has to its credit, apart from sugar machinery, manufacture of industrial boilers, heavy duty transmission gears including propeller driving gears for naval warships, nuclear reactor components and rocket launch vehicles for Indian space Research Organisation.
